"Filing Week" is a five day window in May when candidates for office in 2018 officially declare their candidacy. This year, Filing Week opens on Monday, May 14 and closes at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 18. That's less than three months from now.
Candidates for office are ordinary people willing to help their neighbors through public service.
The Democratic party may encourage individuals to run, but some of the best candidates for office are not known to us --- people with a passion about a particular issue, or people willing to help improve and change the status quo. If you've been thinking about ways to get more involved in your community, you should look into running for public office.

And if you've got a passion for public service, or just think you can do a better job, then you should definitely think about running for office as a candidate in 2018.
