State Convention Delegate Selection

March 26, 2022

On March 26, 2022, precinct committee officers in each legislative district (LD) will meet as an LD caucus to elect delegates and alternates to represent their legislative district at the 2022 Washington State Democratic Convention, to be held in Tacoma, Washington on June 24-25, 2022.

An important part of the convention will be approving the state party's platform for 2022. If you'd like to weigh in and have your voice heard on the important issues considered by the platform, you'll need to run for convention delegate to have an impact. Here's the current draft of the state party platform for review.

It is possible for delegates to attend the state convention virtually (for any reason) if they choose to do so no later than April 1, 2022. In-person convention delegates must be fully vaccinated (and boosted, if eligible). You must notify your LD chair by April 1, 2022 if you choose the virtual delegate option.

Delegates and alternates must reside in the legislative district they are elected to represent (using the newly-redistricted boundaries).

Candidates for delegate/alternate must self-identify as Democrats and individuals not eligible to vote in Washington state due to citizenship status or age are eligible to run for a delegate position (e.g., DACA/Dreamers, and individuals who are not yet 18 years old).

Meeting affirmative action (AA) goals as a delegation will increase the number of delegates representing a legislative district, with the AA goals including the following attributes:

Information about these attributes may be asked for as part of the registration process to run for a delegate position.

Individuals in Spokane County residing in the boundaries of each post-redistricted legislative district may self-nominate to run for state convention delegate by following this 3-step process:

  1. First, determine your existing precinct number by entering your address of residence at the Spokane County SCOUT website. In the "Elections" Box, you will see your current (before redistricting) precinct number (it will show as "Precinct: ####"). Write down this four digit number as you will need it for step two.
  2. Second, enter your four digit precinct number in the Spokane County LD Lookup Tool, which will indicate your 2022 legislative district assignment. Many precincts in Spokane County were reassigned to a different legislative district for 2022 and future years. If the Lookup Tool shows your Precinct Number as "Split", further information will be needed to identify your legislative district assignment. Click Here to send your name and address to Spokane County Democrats for personalized assistance in determining your 2022 legislative district assignment if you see "Split" when using the Lookup Tool.
  3. Third, click on your Legislative District's Google Form link to complete your delegate candidate registration!
